Real Brides, Real Style

Aisha is an undergraduate student, completing her B.A. at UBC in Vancouver; She lives and works in Surrey, B.C. Canada and helps manage an East Indian and Islamic boutique called Bombay Collection Ltd, a family business venture and also work summers at the women's centre. Her husband, Mohammed, is a corporate salesman for an Electrical distributor. Aisha shares how she fullfilled her dream of being a Bollywood Princess on her wedding day.

My Wedding Outfits
I wore a blue and red Rajastani style lehenga choli for the Mehendi night. My Nikaah outfit was a very heavy traditional Falsa lengha choli covered in stones from Monga's. That was the wedding dress of my dreams. It had Bollywood Princess written all over it! For the Walimah, I wore a colorful yellow, blue and pink salwar suit gifted to me by my In-Laws.

Hair and Makeup
I was quite lucky because creativity and talent runs in my family! My make up was done by my cousins Shaina and Shabrina who are both amazing make-up artists. They went with me to MAC and we tried every shade of lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow until we found the perfect colors. Each day was a different look perfect for the occasion. My hair stylist was none other than my aunt, Razia, who knew exactly how to style my hair.

For my mehendi, I was lucky as my best friend, Zaiba, is an experienced and amazing mehendi artist. She has been designing mehendi for other brides for years and we had decided when I get married she'll be doing mine. And sure enough, after months of scouring magazines, the internet and her personal designs we came up with the intricate and beautiful mehendi patterns I had in mind.

My advice for Brides-to-be

It's your big day! Planning is important, most likely everything won't go as planned but that doesn't mean you can't have your perfect dream wedding. As long as the important things are taken care of, all the small details will fall into place especially if you have a team of family and friends who want this day to be as perfect as you want it to be. The best part about my wedding was how my family and friends were so willing to take part and be involved in the most special day of my life. Your wedding is that much more special when your loved ones are there to celebrate it with you!
